The wind on Witches’ Pass (*Passo delle Streghe*) never really stops. In the Middle Ages, the story goes, San Marino heard whispering in it and blamed witches.
The path dates to the 1200s and runs along the ridge of Mount Titano between the republic’s first two towers. Rimini, the Adriatic, the Apennines and Tuscany all sit in view.
VoiceMap’s tours give competing explanations of the name, from a whispering wind to young girls dancing round bonfires, some of them reportedly real witches. They also suggest a summer visit at twilight, when some say the whispers can be heard.
